This file contains many documents including the following: reports pertaining to the forcible relocation of Japanese Americans; government reports and statements of expenditures by the Department of Labour and Department of Mines and Resources for the operation and maintenance of work camps (e.g., Yellowhead-Blue River, Hope-Princeton, Revelstoke-Sicamous); summaries of general expenditures by the British Columbia Security Commission; correspondence and reports concerning Order-in-Council P.C. 9498 ("to investigate the welfare of Japanese in the Interior Settlements of British Columbia"); excerpts from a letter by the Prime Minister about the "mollycoddling and privileges extended to evacuated Japanese"; Order-in-Council P.C. 946; a memorandum and report regarding recommendations for the transfer of powers of the BCSC to the Minister of Labour; a list of BCSC staff members in Vancouver as of early 1943; correspondence regarding included minutes of the Committee on Japanese Problems; memoranda pertaining to whether seized real estate in Vancouver should be "administered or liquidated"; correspondence about seized fishing nets; correspondence regarding the re-organization and dissolution of the BCSC; correspondence regarding a request by the War Relocation Authority for information about the uprooting of Japanese Canadians from the coast of British Columbia, the treatment of these people, and problems experienced by the government in this process of forcible uprooting; a photograph of housing at a camp, next to an area cleared of trees, at the base of a mountain in the Interior of BC; a report titled "JAPANESE MOVEMENT - PACIFIC COAST," dated 30 September 1942; a report on conditions in Slocan, BC; letters concerning the education of Japanese Canadian children; correspondence about the denial of permits granting furloughs to Japanese Canadians; and a letter pertaining to the uprooting of Japanese Canadian families to farms in provinces other than BC.
