Takayoshi Maede to Mr. R G Bell, 15 March 1945

Copy for Mr. Shears.
Greenwood, B. C. Mar. 15th, 1945.
Mr. R G Bell,
Administration Department,
Vancouver, B. C. Dear Sir:
I have received yours of the 12th inst., regarding to my property, 104 St. George St., Nanaimo, B. C. In your letter you say I have sold it to Mrs. Thomas Cullen, and require the title above.
I don't complain the Government policy of the liquidation, but I can't sell such a cheap price as you quote, because I have bought that house with property for the amount of $625.00 first and I have built adjoining rooms and wood shed cost me $465.00, therefore I will sell to anybody for the amount of $1,090.00.
At any rate I won't sell less than I have spent by myself.
Yours truly,

Terminology

Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice.
