Notes
Orino Komura, the owner and seller, is the widow of Hiyakujiro Komura, and the administratrix of his will. This transfer is to move the property from the estate (and her as the administrix) to her as the beneficiary. Transfer documents include an affidavit from lawyer Albert Henry Young indicating that Orino Komura is only able to speak and understand Japanese, that she can sign her name in English, that he has explained the terms of the transfer documents to her, and that she has signed willingly.

Terminology

Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice. See our statement on terminology, and related sources here.
