Notes
Title is for Lot 7 and the East 1/2 of Lot 6. Arthur Ralph Creagh is In Trust (Filing 23117L). Owner and lawyer addresses are identical.
No consideration value given. Transfer is by Order of the Supreme Court of British Columbia, appointing new Trustee for Henry Glynne Fiennes-Clinton (deceased) and investing the lands in Arthur Ralph Creagh. Transfer contains a copy of the Supreme Court order, which explains that the Synod of the Diocese of New Westminster has Petitioned the court for ownership, since in 1906 Henry Glynne Fiennes-Clinton declared that he held the property In Trust for the Japanese Mission of the Diocese of New Westminster and would convey it by Quit Claim Deed upon the request of the authorities of the Diocese (a copy of this 1906 document is also contained in the transfer folio). However, Fiennes-Clinton and all his executors died before the conveyance could be undertaken, leaving him still in ownership of the property.

Terminology

Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice. See our statement on terminology, and related sources here.
