                              <p>Appeal book for Rex vs. Edward Houston, who was convicted of stealing a fishing net from Jacob Sognefest on 23 September 1942. Houston claimed that he had been framed by rival fishermen who did not want to share the space vacated by Japanese Canadian fishermen in <placeName ref="plc:stev2">Steveston</placeName>. The entire appeal book has been photographed for context. Japanese Canadians are mentioned on pages 25, 93, 98, 103, 127, and 166 of the appeal book.</p>
