His family includes Shizu Kumagai (common-law wife), Toshiko Kumagai (daughter), Hiroshi Kumagai (son), Matsuye Kumagai (daughter), and Yasuyuki Kumagai (son). The names of his father and mother are not provided. He rented two rooms at 1603 Franklin Street, Vancouver, BC, in the home of Mr. S. Matsuzaki. He was forcibly uprooted to Sandon, BC on 9 April 1942. His listed seized property includes a boat named “R.I.” which was purchased by Canadian Fishing Company Limited. His household belongings were sold under duress and the items he left behind were unable to be found.</p>
