This file includes correspondence and records maintained by F. de Kobbe (of the Spanish Consulate) concerning the treatment of Japanese Canadians and Japanese nationals in Canada. It Includes: lists and letters of Japanese nationals and Japanese Canadians who wish to be "repatriated"; correspondence with Pedro Schwartz regarding the treatment of Japanese Canadians (including discussions on the property held by Custodian and baggage accommodations and restrictions for those being forcibly exiled); discussions of camp conditions, particularly for those with no assets and/or are sitting in a poor economic condition because of Custodian's sales (also discussion of insufficient relief); records on the medical treatment; letters of appreciation to de Kobbe; inquiries and petitions from Japanese Canadians (e.g. as to the status of their property and belongings left behind); records pertaining to the Custodian's authority and actions; and discussions of Japanese Canadian labour and work.
