Her maiden name was Sumiyo Suzuki. She was born on 3 April 1923. She was a student dressmaker employed by Shinkoda Manufacturing Company. Her family includes Toshio Hori (husband), Shugo Suzuki (father) and Toyo Suzuki (mother; nee Toyo Kosaka). Her home address is listed as 427 Powell Street, Vancouver, BC. She was forcibly uprooted to Toronto, Ontario.
