She was born on 19 May 1917. She was a student at UBC. Her family includes Toramatsu Uyede (father) and Tatsu Uyede (mother; nee Tatsu Tanaka; later Tatsu Eguchi). She lived in Vancouver, BC. She was forcibly uprooted to Montreal, Quebec.
