He was born on 6 September 1887. He was a self-employed fisherman partnered with T. Higo. His family includes Kauemon Yano (father), Ei Yano (mother; nee Ei Kobara), Ine Yano (wife; in Japan), Yaeko Yano (daughter; in Japan) and Hideo Yano (son; in Japan). He lived in Indian River, BC. He was forcibly uprooted to Slocan, BC.
