George Hurst to J. A. Motherwell, 15 January 1942

Fallis Alta. Jan 15, 1942
To whom it may concern. Greetings.
Through the press I understand that the Japanese fishing boats have been seized and that Japs are not to be allowed to fish during the duration of the war.
There are a number of experienced fishermen in this district that are now unemployed, due to the closing of Wabamun Lake to commercial fishing here. Most of these men are unfit for military service.
Would you be kind enough to advise me, as to know how these men would get to fish at the coast. Would the Government assist fisherman and in what ways.
Yours Truly,
George Hurst
Veteran of the last great war asking.
P.S.
A copy of the fishing regulations would be appreciated

Terminology

Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice.
