Dear Mr. Nelson:
Mr. McMaster of the Japanese Fishing Vessels Disposal Commission tells us that it is not within
his power to let us have a list of those who have purchased fishing vessels formerly
owned by Japanese.
This is unfortunate, as elimination of Japanese from the fishing industry has depleted
the Diesel Doings mailing list considerably.
Mr. McMastser said that the only way a list of purchasers could be obtained would
be on the authority or the Department of Fisheries.
Would you be able to get in touch with some responsible official in this Department
to see if permission can be secured? It is even possible this official might know
other names which could well be added to the Diesel Doings list.
Hoping that some action can be secured,

Terminology
Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese
Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment
and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes
of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological
choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice.
