General material designation |
From this file, LOI has digitized one textual record or image.
|
Scope and content |
This file contains Order-in-Council PC 1942-8173, dated 18 August 1942. PC 1942-8173
requested the allocation of further funds in order to build more housing and facilities
at the camps. As with Order-in-Council PC 1942-7387, PC 1942-8173 outlines the underestimation
of how many men would be housed in the labour camps. PC 1942-8173 demonstrates the
logistical difficulties encountered by the British Columbia Security Commission in carrying out their plans of uprooting, dispossession, and imprisonment of people
of Japanese descent.

Terminology
Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese
Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment
and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes
of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological
choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice.
