Scope and content
This file contains the Report and Recommendations of the Special Committee on Orientals in British Columbia (appointed on 01 October 1940). This report was arranged to investigate "the position of persons of Japanese and Chinese racial origin, who are resident in British Columbia, and to report upon the problem of Japanese and Chinese in that Province from the point of view of national security, with particular reference to the question of military training." The document includes methods of procedure, statistical background, the "problem," the Chinese aspect of the "problem" (as marginal compared to the "Japanese problem"), the evidence for the "problem," the summary, and ten recommendations. This report was conducted and signed by A.W. Sparling, H.L. Keenleyside, F.J. Mead, and G.B. Sansom.
