Title Proper | RG36-27 VOLUME 08 FILE 182 |
Date(s) of material from this resource digitized | 1943 |
General material designation |
From this file, LOI has digitized one textual record or image.
|
Scope and content |
The file contains correspondence concerning minor administrative procedures of the
British Columbia Security Commission. For example, included is correspondence ensuring that letters about Japanese Canadian
individuals between the BCSC and Custodian's office mention only one individual per letter because the Custodian maintains a separate file for each individual, and therefore, letters referring to
multiple people require the Custodian's office to make several carbon copies. Also includes a memorandum from George Collins, dated 19 March 1943, that notes that "refunds made payable to the Japanese will
be cleared through the Treasury Office of this Commission."

Terminology
Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese
Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment
and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes
of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological
choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice.
