(Mrs.) Hisa Endo to Mr. F G Shears, 19 April 1944

File No. 9363
Tashme, B.C.
April 19, 1944
Mr. F G Shears 506 Royal Bank Building,Vancouver, B.C. Dear Sir:
Re: Blocks 14 and 17 and Lots 1 to 10 inclusive of Block "A" of lot 165, Group 3, Map 2632, District of New Westminster, Municipality of Mission, C. of E. 49974, Right of Way, Map 4882 as to Block 14 only, Municipality of Mission .
Acknowledge receipt of the sale of the above property for the sum of $411.00. In 1930, the B.C. Government had bought a parcel of my property as a right of way for $898.00.
At this rate, the sale is only one-sixth of the former valuation. In my estimation, I think the value of each acre is worth $350.00. The land had been cultivated and the rhubarb, asparagus and hop crop would net more than $1,000.00.
Therefore, I protest in the amount of the above sale which I think is most unfair and request that a more equitable valuation be placed upon the said property.
Yours truly, Reg. No. 13222

Terminology

Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice.
