Saichi Shinmoto to The Office of the Custodian, 01 August 1944

File No. 2298
Kaslo, B. C. August 1st, 1944.
The Office of the Custodian, Royal Bank Building, Vancouver, B. C. Dear Sirs:-
Re: Your file J.L. No. 488.
You have just informed me that my property known as Lot 2, Block "A" of S.E.ΒΌ of Sec. 31, T.P. 2, Map 4487, Municipality of Surrey in the District of New Westminster has been sold.
Now, I beg to inform you that I have never consented to the sale and do now object to the sale of the said property. I might mention that the price at which you sold the above property is unreasonably cheap.
Yours truly,

Terminology

Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice. See our statement on terminology, and related sources here.
