Dear Sir:
I have just received your letter and statement of my account of July, 27, 1944. To say that I was shocked is putting it mildly. I am sure that my aged parents will
be shocked too when they learn that the land which they bought for me with the labour
of their sweat and tears have been sold. I know now that my cousins who fought and
died in France for Canada during the last war have died in vain.
When we were ordered to register my properties with you in April, 1942, I was assured that they would be protected and well taken care of until my return
to the coast. I had believed you, but now you have betrayed your trust. You have informed
me that the properties have been sold. What I would like to know sir is who gave you
the permission or the authority to sell my properties without my knowledge. Hasn't
the owner any say in these transactions? The price at which you have sold my land
and fishing gear is nothing but highway robbery. Has the price of land and fishing
gear depreciated so much during the year that you had to practically give them away?
I have the receipts which I received when I bought the land and fishing gear to show
that you have "gyped" me.
You have cunningly taken advantage of this war to deprive illegally the properties,
which I, as a Canadian subject had acquired legally.
On May 15 and June 14, I see that you have sold some of my articles at auction sales. I would like to know
what articles you have sold, and the price received for each.
I protest most vehemently the actions you have taken in selling my properties without
my previous knowledge or consent. You have taken a step, which is so reminiscent of
Nazi Germany. Is that what Canada is fighting for?
In conclusion sir, I will never consider my properties sold, and will never accede
to the transfer of same, so you needn't charge me for legal fees in connection with
the conveyance to the Veterans' Land. At present you have me at a disadvantage. If
these sales are not revoked I reserve the right to take legal action after the war.
Please furnish me with the informations I have asked.
