W E Anderson to Mr. Yukio Yamada, 28 August 1944
We are in receipt of your letter of August 13, 1944.
Your remarks have been carefully read and we can appreciate that the disposal of your
property is a matter which will give you personal concern. However, the sale of properties
to the Director, The Veterans' Land Act, was carried out as part of a policy of liquidation
outlined by the Canadian Government and the prices obtained were on the basis of appraised
valuations.
Your letter has been placed upon our files so that your comments in regard to this
sale will remain on record, but we can only advise you that the sale has been completed
and that we are not in a position to consider any alternative in regard to this matter.
With reference to your enquiry about the chattels left on the property, these are
not sold yet but it is likely a public auction of these goods will be held in the
near future in accordance with the policy of liquidation adhered to by this office.

Terminology
Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese
Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment
and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes
of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological
choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice.
