Dept. of Secretary of State,
Vancouver, B. C. Dear Sirs:
Re: File 8254. Cat. #581.
I am in receipt of your letter of the 13th inst. advising me of an offer of $650.00 gross for my Duncan property.
This is to advise that I vigorously protest the appraisal value as the lot and materials used in construction exceeds the value placed upon my property by your appraiser. I have in my possession records and receipts to prove the above statement and if you sell at the aforementioned price I will without fail contest your decision at the earliest possible date.
Yours truly,
"Toru Maruya" (08982)

Terminology

Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice. See our statement on terminology, and related sources here.
