F Matheson to Mr. Hisajiro Shikatani, 03 March 1946
Your letter of February 25th has been received. Your comments in regard to your missing radio have been noted
and your letter has been placed on record.
Yours truly,
Protection Department
Cc: Mr. Shears
(This letter and the attached copy of letter from Hisajiro Shikatani refer to a Marconi
Mantel Radio, Serial No. 207, turned over to the Custodian by the
R.C.M.P.
and stored at
992 Powell Street
, on July 11, 1944. When radios stored at 992 Powell Street had all been sold or returned to their owners,
this radio was among those that had not been accounted for, and it is assumed that
this radio was stolen during a break-in. On October 1, 1945, we notified the Vancouver Police that this radio had been stolen. Our letter was acknowledged. We have received no
further information from the police in regard to stolen radios and cameras.)

Terminology
Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese
Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment
and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes
of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological
choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice.
See our statement on terminology, and related sources here.
