J K Sumi to Office of the Custodian, 21 October 1946

Copy for Mr. Shears (re File 5143)
Tappen, B.C. Oct. 21/46
Office of the Custodian 506 Royal Bank Bldg. Sir:
I am in receipt of your cheque for sum of $456.05, for which I thank you.
As you wish me to confirm that this sum terminates all account for my property vested in the Custodian.
I hereby swear that I have received in full, only your valuation of my property.
If you wish me to declare that I have received a fair and just sum for all properties I certainly do not. Can you imagine that I would want to sell 100 Acres of land 15 Acres cleared upon which is built a 6 room house, 16,000 sq. ft. of greehouse for sum of $1890.00.
Should the Government of Canada decide to change its policies I think I have a few more dollars coming.
Yours truly, Reg. No. 14275

Terminology

Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice. See our statement on terminology, and related sources here.
