Reply attention Mr. Kennedy
Japanese Evacuation Section,
506 Royal Bank Building VANCOUVER, B.C. Dear Sirs:
Re: Kyusuke Oike, Reg. No. 14094
Your file: 8695
We have been requested by the above-named to advise you that he has received your letter of the 29th ult. and to further advise you that he does not feel satisfied with the purchase price obtained for his property at Haney in connection with the sale held in 1944.
Mr. Oike feels that a fair price for the property in 1944 should have been considerably in excess of the amount for which you sold the property, in as much as he was offered $6000.00 at the time of the evacuation on a strictly forced sale basis and at a time when real estate values were considerably below those existing in 1944.
Yours very truly, Per. "R.W. Kennedy"

Terminology

Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice. See our statement on terminology, and related sources here.
