Complaint
Taber, Alberta
February 25th, 1947.
The Department of the Secretary of State,
Vancouver, B.C.
Dear Sir:
I received a letter and cheque addressed to me, the cheque
“being the balance derived from the sale of chattels.”
I am returning the cheque for fifteen dollars and twenty cents ($15.20)
because there must be an error, either in the owner of those chattels or in the
value of the goods.

Terminology
Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese
Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment
and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes
of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological
choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice.
