T Naruse to Department of the Secretary of State, Office of the Custodian, 28 February 1947
For Mr. Shears
Handwritten: Complaint
February 28, 1947
Raymond, Alta.
Department of the Secretary of State,
506 Royal Bank Building,
Hastings and Granville Sts.
Vancouver, B.C.
Dear Sir:
At the time of registering my property with the Custodian my father and my sister
was assured by Mr. Shears that the Custodian is there to protect Enemy Alien's properties.
Instead of protecting my property at
857 East Cordova Street
it was sold without my knowledge and at the value which is very unsatisfactory to
me.
Yours truly,
(Signed)
T Naruse

Terminology
Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese
Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment
and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes
of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological
choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice.
See our statement on terminology, and related sources here.
