Copy for Mr. Shears
Box 85, Taber, Alta. April 24, 1947.
Dept. of the Secretary of State,
Japanese Evacuee Section
Hastings & Granville, Vancouver, B.C. Dear Sirs:
I am in receipt of your cheque for ninety four dollars and seventy-two-cents ($94.72). I would like to know what if this is all.
As you know, I worked in B.C. for 30 years and had many assets. When evacuated, I did not sell anything, Even the insurance on the buildings amounts to $4850.00 with the New England Fire Insurance Co.
I have sent a detailed compensation bill to Gov't. If this is all I get, it amounts to only 1/10 of value.
Please send a detailed report on how you sold my property.
Please send this as soon as possible.
Yours truly,

Terminology

Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice. See our statement on terminology, and related sources here.
