Mrs. Matsuno Shimizu to Office of the Custodian of Enemy Property , 19 June 1947

139 Hunter Street East, Hamilton, Ontario June 19, 1947
Dear Sir:
I received your letter and cheque the other day in regard to the net proceeds from goods belonging to me. I am returning this cheque because all of our goods are valued at around $600.00. I turned a copy of the list of goods in your office before leaving Vancouver, so would be pleased if you would check up on the matter more carefully. Would you please reply back in regard to this matter? I hope that I have not caused too much trouble but I am anxious to know what has happened to those goods.
Yours truly, Reg. No. 08933

Terminology

Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice. See our statement on terminology, and related sources here.
