COPY for Mr. Shears (re File 11274)
New Denver, B.C. July 15, 1947
File No. 11274 Dear Sir:
I received your registered letter of July 4th including the Royal Bank of Canada cheque for $2742.53.
The agent from Pemberton Realty Corporation Limited has been looking after my property of 747 East Cordova Street and 753 East Cordova Street . You did not discuss with me about the selling of the both houses. I was notified months later that these transactions were made.
I cannot understand why you sold my property and chattels without my consent as I did not have any debts. For this reason I cannot accept this cheque. I am returning this cheque of $2752.53 by registered mail.
Yours truly,

Terminology

Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice. See our statement on terminology, and related sources here.
