Scope and content |
This file contains a collection of newspaper clippings from various events in 1947
of interest to Yasutaro Yamaga. Most of the clippings do not relate directly to Japanese Canadians [he seems to
have had considerable interest in labour disputes and the Doukhobors as well]. Near
the end of the scrapbook are a few pages of clippings related to the forced sale of
property, Yasutaro Yamaga's resignation, and the Bird Commission. Other mentions of Japanese Canadians and their property are scattered throughout.
A small number of articles are in Japanese.

Terminology
Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese
Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment
and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes
of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological
choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice.
See our statement on terminology, and related sources here.
