His family includes Ritsu Watanabe (wife; nee Ritsu Iwai; in Japan), Matsuo Watanabe (father), Fusa Watanabe (mother; nee Fusa Haga), and Shoichiro Watanabe (son; in Japan). He lived in New Westminster, BC. He was forcibly uprooted to Tashme, BC and exiled to Japan on 31 May 1946.
