Tokozo Kariya
Kariya was born on 18 January 1884. He was a fisherman employed by Inverness Cannery,
Skeena River, BC. His family includes Yasuemon Kariya (father; deceased at time of
file), Maki Kariya (mother; nee Maki Nariwa; in Japan), Tamae Kariya (wife; nee Tamae
Shimamoto; in Japan) and Nakatsu Naojiro (cousin). His home address is listed as P.O.
Box 41, Steveston, BC. He lived in one room in the back of his cousin’s confectionery
store. He was forcibly uprooted to Solsqua, BC and was exiled to Japan on 24 December
1946. His listed seized property includes his boat the “Fumie,” and two nets, all
purchased by J.H. Todd & Sons Limited.
