Scope and content |
Rex v. Marino Cali Crown brief. Cali is being charged with unlawful assembly, disturbing
the peace, and destruction of property when taking part in the anti-Asian riots on
7 September 1907 in Vancouver. Destruction of property is described, mostly against Chinese Canadian-occupied buildings
and one Japanese Canadian property is referenced. The riot is described as more than
500 people, and that the police were not prepared to handle a riot. Included is a
BC Supreme Court document describing the riot. Cali is found guilty of unlawful assembly and sentenced
to hard labour.
