|
Scope and content |
This file contains copies of Orders-in-Council P.C. 7355, P.C. 7356, and P.C. 7537,
all regarding the deportation of Japanese nationals and Japanese Canadians residing
in Canada. There is also a copy of the notice that was posted at the Tashme camp on 16 March 1945 and a copy of the “Repatriation Form.” Winnifred Awmack wrote a short “memo of opinion” on these orders of deportation. Awmack cites a litany
of court cases and Privy Council judgements that have secured the rights of citizens for further proof of the injustice
in this government policy.

Terminology
Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese
Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment
and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes
of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological
choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice.
