This file includes archival records of the Director of Environmental Health relating to housing and lodging houses in Vancouver from as early as 1913 to 1956. Included are discussions of the "oriental death rate";
of the lodging houses on Powell Street and Hastings street; maps of the city; concerns regarding control over new buildings; and reports regarding
West Vancouver and care for elderly citizens. These records reveal influences from UK housing policy traditions and imperial understandings of settlement.
