Victoria, B.C.
Dear Sirs,
I am considering moving to your province to fish at the coast, but should like to be better informed about conditions there before I take the step.
I understand that you are looking for fishermen to replace the Japanese who have been removed, and that quantities of fishing equipment are available at reasonable cost. I should like to know on what terms these are to be had- whether for sale or lease, and the approximate cost of the variously sized boats and equipment for same; also any other details that you think would be of interest, such as wage etc.
I know other fishermen who might be interested in moving if prospects were fairly good.
I might add that I have over 20 years experience, having fished various lakes in Sask & Manitoba.
Yours truly,
B. Baldwinson

Terminology

Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice. See our statement on terminology, and related sources here.
