Gentlemen:
We are looking for small shallow draft purse seiner boats which can principally fish in bays, and fairly quiet waters, and which can carry from two to four, or more, thousand fish.
A friend of ours, here in Seattle, suggested that we write to you and inquire as to the whereabouts and availability of the Japanese purse seine boats which your Government took over after commencement of hostilities. From the description given to us of these boats, we believe that these are just the kind that we are looking for.
Would you kindly advise us if a few boats of this seine fleet is now available, and to whom we should address ourselves to for inspection, and for arrangements of purchase or lease. Your information will be deeply appreciated.
Yours very truly,
Mainland Fisheries, Incorp.

Terminology

Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice. See our statement on terminology, and related sources here.
