May 11th, 1944.
Office of the Custodian, Royal Bank Building, Vancouver, B. C. Dear Sirs:-
Re: Your file #8555 - Kamejiro Obana
1381 Kell Ave., White Rock, B. C. S½ of Lot 7 of the E½ of Block 4 of E½ of Sec. 11, Tp. 1, Map 3403, Municipality of Surrey, D.N.W.
I have received your letter of May 2nd instant, advising me of the sale price and adjustment of my property as above stated.
It is surprising to know that my property is already sold by you without my consent, and for such a low price and I do not hesitate in making this protest for this your action.
In the reverse side of your letter, I notice that the balance of account as at Jan. 1, 1943 being stated as $4.00 to my credit. I can hardly understand how you derived this figure as a balance for that date. I have never been advised of it, and you ought to have advised me in detail how this balance has been derived.
Thanking for your immediate attention, I am,
Yours truly, (Kamejiro Obana)

Terminology

Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice.
