W E Anderson to Mr. Kamejiro Obana, 23 May 1944
We are in receipt of your letter of May 11, 1944.
Your remarks have been carefully read and we can appreciate that the disposal of your
property will be a matter of personal concern. However, the sale of properties to
the Director, The Veterans' Land Act was carried out as a part of a policy of liquidation
outlined by Ottawa on the basis of appraised values.
Your letter has been placed upon our files so that your comments in regard to this
sale will remain on record but we can only advise you that we are unable to consider
any alternative in regard to this matter.
We note your enquiry as to how the sum of $4.00 came to be credited to you. Your property was rented as at December 15, 1942 for
the sum of $8.00 per month but as your property was sold as at December 31, 1942 ther was but a half-month's
rent due you, amounting to $4.00 as stated.
We trust this explanation is satisfactory.

Terminology
Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese
Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment
and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes
of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological
choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice.
See our statement on terminology, and related sources here.
