Slocan, B. C. Sept. 25, 1944.
File No. 6994.
Japanese Evacuation Section,
Department of the Secretary of State of Canada,
506 Royal Bank Building, Vancouver, B. C. Dear Sir:
You have informed me of the sale of my land for $410.00 (Four hundred ten dollars). I am certain that this price is much too low for this land because it is not even one-half of the assessed value of my land which is only a percentage of the total value of any land. After the many years of toil I spent to acquire that land and to make it productive, I am very disappointed in your selling of my land at such a low price. Perhaps you are not aware of the fact that fertile land cannot be bought as cheaply as you have sold mine. I am in disagreement with you for the low selling price of my land.
Yours truly, Reg. No. 13950.

Terminology

Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice. See our statement on terminology, and related sources here.
