Mr. Green and R D Richardson to Mr.Shears, 14 December 1944
Mr. Shears
MEMORANDUM
(copy of letter attached as instructed)
You may be interested to note letter from Mrs. Take Tomonaga written by her daughter
attached hereto and stating that she has written to Ottawa to confirm the policy of liquidation.
You may recall this case as the wife and daughter refused to move from the protected
area and claimed to have had a large sum of money stolen while detained in the Immigration
Buildings. The attached memorandum to file sumarizes transactions that have taken
place so far and if you will kindly return the files to me, I will send a brief answer
to Mrs. Tomonaga.

Terminology
Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese
Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment
and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes
of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological
choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice.
See our statement on terminology, and related sources here.
