Your file No. 10897 The Office of the Custodian 506 Royal Bank Building, Hastings St. Vancouver, B.C.
Attention to Mr. F Matheson
Dear Sirs:
Please find enclosed cheque which you sent me, dated December 12th, and which cannot be accepted, because of the sum of $3.02, being net proceeds from the sale of my car. This section on your part was contrary to your promise and against my will, and you never received permission to sell my car. It is a ridiculously cheap price. The car was in very good condition and kept so carefully, for my private use only, and did not run up a big mileage. I had just bought a new 1942 licence for the car for $25.00 and used it only a couple of days. Therefore, you or the B.C. Government must refund the licence fee to me. This is entirely unfair treatment on your part.
I trust you can understand this situation.
Yours truly,

Terminology

Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice. See our statement on terminology, and related sources here.
