Cheque returned for redeposit. Manzo Araki, Reg. No. 09317, File 5417
Box 14, Westbank, B.C. May 22nd, 1947.
Dear Sir:
I have received this cheque of $25.00 for my house, but I won't accept it. It sure is quite a price for a house isn't it? I am a return soldier & I sure get treated well after fighting for this country, don't I? As for the house I'll put the price on myself.
Thank you,
Yours truly,
(The cheque represented the sum received from Canadian Collieres (Dunsmuir) Limited as salvage value of a house build on the complany's land. Right to occupy and use terminated when occupier ceased to be an employee of the company)

Terminology

Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice.
