Notes
There are two indentures with the same code. The older one is dated January 13, 1909, showing a property transaction from William M. Hought of Vancouver, BC to Peter John McKicham of Vancouver BC. The legal description is really hard to read, but the property in question appears different from the second, newer indenture which is recorded in this entry, as the property on the older indenture had 43 acres. The older indenture had a consideration of $9645.

Terminology

Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice. See our statement on terminology, and related sources here.
