Thomas F. Speed and Vernon C. Morris were owners in fee simple in trust for the Ganges
Lawn Tennis Club, the land "subject nevertheless to the proviso that in the event
of the said lands and hereditaments ceasing to be used for recreational purposes,"
they would re-convey the lands to Andrew James Smith of Ganges.
James Dunlop Halley and William Scott Ritchie are Executors of the Will of Andrew
James Smith, deceased. Andrew James Smith died January 6, 1933.
Harry Wright Bullock paid $200 to Halley and Ritchie. Speed, Morrie, Halley, and Ritchie
granted the properties to Bullock.

Terminology
Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese
Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment
and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes
of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological
choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice.
See our statement on terminology, and related sources here.
