Notes |
Margaret Malcolm is the sole devisee and executrix of Joseph J. Malcolm, deceased.
Lot C and part of Lot B (later called Lot 1 of Plan 3769) was a JC-owned property.
For Salt Spring Island, title searchers only searched properties that were owned by
Japanese Canadians or properties that appeared alongside JC-owned properties between
one transaction pre-1942 and 1974. Lot A does not fall within these search boundaries
because it appears on a title more than one transaction before 1942. As a result,
only next title 56059I (Lot B and C) was searched.

Terminology
Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese
Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment
and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes
of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological
choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice.
See our statement on terminology, and related sources here.
