Otomatsu Ishii
Ishii was born on 20 November 1874. He was a self-employed fisherman. His family includes
Asu Ishii (wife; nee Asu Kajikawa), Asoa Ishii (son; born 3 January 1934), and Toshiko
Ishii (daughter). His home address is listed as Rendezvous Island, Redonda Bay P.O.,
BC. He was forcibly uprooted to Slocan, BC and exiled to Japan on 24 December 1946.
His 168 acres of property on Rendezvous Island were seized and sold to Mrs. Laura
Henshall. A document in the file indicates that the house “suffered the attention
of vandals, said to be from a near-by Indian Reserve” and that “everything movable,
including windows and doors, was reported to have been stolen.” OtHer listed seized
property includes his boat, the “Asa,” sold to Francis Millerd & Company Limited,
8 sacks of rice, 150 pounds of sugar, canned goods, dry goods, garden tools and household
belongings.
