1574: Naojiro Izumi

Izumi was born on 15 February 1876. He was a fisherman. His family includes Kiku Izumi (mother; nee Kiku Kishi), Uyomon Izumi (father), Chitose Izumi (wife; nee Chitose Ito), Hiroo Izumi (son; born 30 September 1928), Hachiro Izumi [also listed as Kenneth Izumi] (son; born 28 May 1930) and Fujimatsu Terashita (uncle). His home address is listed as P.O. Box 5, Tofino, BC. He was forcibly uprooted to Bay Farm, Slocan, BC and was exiled to Japan on 2 August 1946. His home and land at Storm Bay, Tofino, BC, was seized and sold to Sergeant John Elliot of the Royal Canadian Engineers after being devalued by Custodian agents due to vandalism. His other listed seized property includes: his boat, the “N.I.,” sold to Wm. Clakre Gibson; groceries including rice and noodles; boating equipment seized by the Navy; and household belongings. Izumi was a also a member of the Tofino Japanese Association whose assets, including the Japanese school, were seized and sold.
