Scope and content
Building on the success of the Tashme High School annuals, The Outlook was a short-lived magazine project conducted by former students. One of the first mandates of the magazine was to publish essays written by students for the 1946 annual that never reached publication. The format followed closely to that of the annuals with essays, anecdotes, and jokes intermingled throughout. Largely, the project was designed to keep former students of Tashme High in touch with each other, and aware of each other’s activities.

Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice. See our statement on terminology, and related sources here.
