Fruitvale, B.C. Jan 3rd / 1942
Dept. of Fisheries:
Dear Sirs:
In regards to the recent events in the Pacific, I would like to have some more information concerning these Japanese schooners and fishing boats; that our government has taking over for the duration of this war.
I operated a schooner on Great Slave Lake from 1926 to 1933 and have done a great deal of deep lake fishing, but at present I have very little capital, but should your dept consider loaning these Japanese equipment to Canadians; or put in under Government control and need experienced men to operate I trust you give me some consideration.
I trust that you will oblige me with the above information as soon as possible.
I am Yours sincerely
Thos. C. Dunn

Terminology

Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice. See our statement on terminology, and related sources here.
