Dear Sir:
I have noted your advertisement regarding the disposal of certain vessels which were taken over from Japanese fishermen.
I have had an inquiry from one of my sons, who is at present with the Army overseas, relative to these vessels. He and a friend plan to look into the matter of entering commercial fishing as an occupation after the war. They will have say $1500 to $2000 cash available at that time, and they presume that some form of Government assistance may be afforded to returned men towards paying the balance of the cost of the boat and equipment.
While of course it is very unlikely that any of the ex-Japanese Vessels will be available when the men return, I wonder if you would be good enough to give me an unofficial estimate of the cost of a stout boat suitable for operation by two men, and of the cost of gear and equipment, so that I may be enabled to send an intelligent report to my son.
Thanking you in anticipation,
I am, Yours very truly,
(Sgd.) Frank W. Taylor.

Terminology

Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice.
